Step 1: Taking Charge
Therapy begins with a careful evaluation leading to a treatment plan defining the goals of therapy and the strategies for achieving them. To encourage your active participation, your therapist will share with you the latest expert knowledge about the problem.
Step 2: Learning New Tools
Treatment then focuses on applying new cognitive and behavioral strategies to replace old, ineffective patterns. The goal is to enhance control over disruptive feelings, thoughts, body sensations, impulses and behaviors.
Step 3: Practicing
The therapist will then coach you through a period of intensive practice aimed at applying new insights and skills under the full range of likely challenges.
Step 4: Staying Well
Final sessions focus on maintaining new skills, adapting to future challenges, and staying on track long after therapy ends.
